Goals of Quickterm
A summary of why we use Quickterm (and why we moved away from WorldServer)
Terminology management at Adobe was previously managed in a way that was:
- Difficult and complicated to access the terminology database
- Reserved primarily to members of the globalization team or vendor partners (via VPN)
- Difficult to track requests as they were managed via multiple workflow systems (email, slack, JIRA etc.)
- Limited to the outdated WorldServer architecture (which is no longer being developed)
Onboarding Quickterm grants Adobe:
- Concept-oriented and term-autonomous termbase schema, which can be adjusted flexibly and also during operation to meet our exact data management needs
- Granular access rights management: ability to manage who can create, see, and edit what data in which workflow step
- Suggestions and feedback on existing entries from end users & stakeholders, change and translation requests from vendor linguists
- Collaborative workflows allowing terminologists to prepare, edit, validate, harmonize, and approve terminology together with subject matter experts or entire terminology committees
- Collaborative workflows also allow stakeholders for the target languages, such as translators, project managers, or reviewers to define the target-language terminology
- All tasks are tracked in task lists and reports, including priorities, deadlines, and notifications
Terminology access now comes with new features
- Terminology can be rolled out in the entire organization and in all languages in an intuitive way, tailored to each target user group and audience. It can be accessed via browser, hotkey, publication into other systems, or via API access
- Numerous search features, including fuzzy search, concordance search, browsing, morphological intelligence, and even visual navigation through concept maps or hierarchical taxonomies
- Concept maps allow the visual representation of entire concept systems, while taxonomies break down the data into hierarchical areas to allow drill-down
- Gamification features such as entries of the week, term quizzes, etc., allow the terminology team to communicate the benefits of terminology in a low-threshold manner to their user base. Also, it allows them to keep the awareness about terminology alive in the organization.
- Collaboration is established in the entire company with features like feedback, term requests, change requests, translation suggestions, or even chat
